We deeply appreciate your support

Here’s the unedited version of the letter we wrote to The Sun Chronicle (this is assuming that they may edit it). The photos above are from the September 21, 2024 event.

We’ve all read stories in The Sun Chronicle and other news outlets about food insecurity and how it continues to affect our communities. Since 2019, Empty Bowls Attleboro Area has raised over $600,000 to combat food insecurity in the area.

Empty Bowls is part of an international initiative started decades ago by potters and ceramic artists. These artists create handmade bowls, solicit food and other support, and host community meals. Guests pay to attend, share a meal, and select a bowl to keep as a reminder of their contribution to fighting hunger in their neighborhoods and around the world.

This year, our sixth Empty Bowls event was another great success, thanks to everyone who participated, sponsored, donated, and purchased bowls at our September gathering. The event was dedicated to Sally Cobb, a founding member of our Empty Bowls initiative, who passed away in June. Sally was a potter, gardener, mother, grandmother, and a cherished friend to many.

On December 5, we will distribute over $140,000 to frontline organizations addressing food insecurity, including:

  • The Food n’ Friends program of the Attleboro Area Interfaith Collaborative
  • Attleboro Norton Y Senior Meals
  • Hebron Food Pantry
  • Murray Unitarian Universalist Church Food Pantry
  • Second Congregational Church Food Pantry in Attleboro

We deeply appreciate your support. Your generous donations and bowl purchases directly empower these organizations to ensure everyone in our community has access to food.

A special thank you goes out to our artist friends for crafting and glazing the beautiful bowls. We’re also grateful to Morin’s Hometown Bar & Grille, Russell Morin Catering and Events, Bliss Brothers Dairy, and musicians Andy, Jackie, and Aksel Solberg for making our bowl pickup and picnic a truly memorable experience.
